Sustainability as a Standard: Build’n Green 2026 Fair in Vienna

Two intensive days in Vienna lie behind us. At the end of April, Build’n Green 2026 was the central meeting point for the international sustainability community. The facts and figures of the event impressively underscore that the circular economy in the construction sector is no longer just a niche topic:

  • Over 1,200 participants from more than 80 nations.
  • Around 900 targeted B2B meetings, demonstrating the high demand for effective, green solutions.
  • A clear focus on the four pillars of sustainability: Resources, planning, operation, and – particularly important to us – deconstruction and recycling.

For Electro Terminal, the trade fair provided the ideal platform to demonstrate that connection technology is a crucial lever for ecological construction.

Three Solutions for a Green Footprint

In Vienna, we showcased products that don't just promise environmental responsibility, but deliver it:

1. SLK 3 CLEAR RANGE®: 89% Sustainable Housing

Our SLK 3 CLEAR RANGE® sets new standards in material selection. The housing consists of 89% sustainable materials and consistently avoids persistent UV stabilizers.

The highlight for the construction site: the fully transparent material allows immediate visual inspection. This prevents installation errors, reduces waste, and ensures the longevity of the entire electrical installation. In addition, the SLK 3 CLEAR RANGE® can be completely disassembled into its individual parts at the end of its lifespan – another major plus for recycling.

2. SLC CLEAR RANGE® for OEMs: Transparent Resource Efficiency

SLC CLEAR RANGE® also features innovative, sustainable materials. Designed for a clamping range of 0.14 – 4 mm², it precisely meets the requirements of many industries, including luminaire and household appliance manufacturing. High material durability and a transparent housing support error-free installation and improve the sustainability balance of your projects.

3. MICROCON SMD: Material Ecology in Miniature Format

Our MICROCON SMD proves that top technical performance and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand within the smallest spaces. Our focus here is on optimized resource usage combined with a maximum lifespan:

  • Green Material Innovation: The housing consists of 48% renewable raw materials (with no competition to food crops) and is completely free of halogens, phosphorus, or hazardous SVHC substances.
  • Regional Value Creation: With 50% recycled copper from European suppliers and manufacturing directly in Innsbruck, we guarantee the shortest transport routes.
  • Sustainable All the Way: We avoid unnecessary plastic packaging and use 30% recycled content for our SMD reels.

This is how we combine technical excellence with a minimal ecological footprint.

From Component to Circular Economy

The discussions in Vienna confirmed that the industry is looking for partners who keep the entire lifecycle in mind. Our terminals are designed to function reliably for decades and can be separated cleanly by material type at the end of a building's lifespan.

A Personal Sustainability Tour through Vienna

During the Build’n Green trade fair in Vienna, Rosa Maria, Reinhard, and Andreas had the opportunity to experience sustainability, the circular economy, and barrier-free construction from a highly practical perspective.

The first agenda item took our team to Saubermacher. Founded in 1979, this Austrian family-owned company pursues a "Zero Waste" vision, aiming to return as many valuable materials as possible back into the cycle. Saubermacher has already received multiple international awards for its commitment to sustainability.

At the recycling yard in Vienna, it quickly became clear that conscientious recycling relies on more than just technology – it also requires a wealth of experience, attentiveness, and manual labor. Between sorting, excavator work, and material testing, it was evident just how demanding it is to correctly separate recyclables and prepare them for reuse. At the same time, it was inspiring to see how Saubermacher is rethinking approaches in this industry to make recycling easier, faster, and more transparent for both the public and businesses.

Following this tour, the journey continued to the Austrian Parliament. There, the focus turned to a question that perfectly matched the trade fair topic: How can a historic, landmarked building be renovated to meet today’s standards for sustainability, energy efficiency, and accessibility?

The parliament building underwent extensive renovation between 2018 and 2022 and reopened in January 2023. The goal was to preserve the historic structure while making the building more modern, open, and accessible. A particularly positive takeaway was that barrier-free accessibility was treated not just as a mandatory obligation, but as an integral part of creating an open house for all citizens.

The underlying message behind the tour was: sustainability doesn't just begin with grand concepts. It starts where resources are used more consciously, buildings are made future-proof, and access is created for as many people as possible.
